fPost FAQs
What is fPost (AAF + PTX), and who is it for?
arrow down
fPost is a prep tool for audio post-production. It’s a standalone app that works offline and fully integrates with Pro Tools. It’s built for professional audio post workflows where session prep is a bottleneck (dialogue editors, assistants, mixers, and teams handling large projects).
What problem does fPost solve in audio post-production?
arrow down
fPost removes the most painful part of post: importing and organizing messy AAFs or PTX sessions, so you can start editing much faster, especially on large projects.
How does the fPost workflow work with AAFs in Pro Tools (step by step)?
arrow down
1. Drag and drop your AAF into fPost
2. fPost analyzes the content and generates an import-ready structure
3. Select the Pro Tools session you want to import into (template, new session, etc.)
4. Choose what to bring in (Import Session Data options/presets)
5. Click Import: tracks and clips are imported, colored, organized, and placed correctly in Pro Tools
How does the fPost workflow work with existing Pro Tools sessions (PTX) (step by step)?
arrow down
1. Open your Pro Tools session/template.
2. fPost analyzes the session and proposes an organized structure (colors, ordering, recognition, etc.)
3. Click “Organize Pro Tools session” in fPost: clips are colored, organized, and placed correctly in Pro Tools without modifying your template tracks (if existent)
Does fPost import AAFs into Pro Tools automatically, and how fast is it?
arrow down
Yes. fPost is designed to take you from “messy AAF or PTX received” to “session ready to edit” in seconds, depending on project size and complexity.
Does fPost organize by track or by clip/region, and what if tracks are unnamed (Audio 1/2/3)?
arrow down
fPost’s sorting is per region (per audio clip), not just “whole-track” labeling. This matters because tracks often contain mixed content. If the AAF tracks are unnamed (Audio 1, Audio 2, Audio 3), that’s common in post: fPost relies on content recognition, not just track names — so “Audio 1/2/3” is not a blocker.
How does fPost categorize clips (AI), preserve timecode, prevent overlaps, and handle track placement?
arrow down
fPost uses macro buckets like Dialogue, Music, and Sound Effects to categorize clips. It also preserves timestamps/timecode to place clips correctly and avoid stacking conflicts. If overlaps occur, it can create additional tracks (e.g., “Dialog 1”, “Dialog 2”) instead of colliding clips.
What Pro Tools data does fPost keep (Import Session Data) and does it fix split mono tracks?
arrow down
Yes, you can manage Import Session Data (e.g., markers and specific data types) in a more user-friendly and integrated way. The goal is to preserve the Pro Tools-relevant information you expect, including automation / clip gain / markers, where appropriate.fPost can also do stereo/mono fixes automatically: it detects split mono files and converts them to interleaved stereo automatically.
What are the system requirements for fPost?
arrow down
fPost is compatible with Pro Tools 2024.3 on macOS 13+. Your DAW needs to be set to English.
