Import
Import Execution
After configuring all options, click Import (or Organize for template-based workflows). A progress dialog shows each step in real-time.
AAF import steps
AAF imports run 5 steps:
- Preparing tracks: creates matching tracks in Pro Tools for each incoming track
- Importing: imports the AAF session data with all configured options (media, timecode mapping, offsets)
- Combining stereo: merges L/R mono pairs into stereo tracks, if enabled for any category
- Applying movements: moves clips to their target tracks based on all the reorganization you did in the Visualizer
- Coloring tracks: applies category colors and naming conventions to tracks in Pro Tools
Organize steps
Template-based organize workflows run 4 steps:
- Applying movements: moves clips to target tracks
- Combining stereo: merges mono pairs (if enabled)
- Matching template: duplicates template tracks and routes clips to the copies
- Coloring tracks: applies colors and naming conventions
Step status indicators
- Empty circle: queued, not yet started
- Spinner: currently processing
- Green checkmark: completed successfully
- Red X: error, with an error message shown below
A counter shows overall progress: "3/5 steps completed".
Completion
When all steps finish, the status changes from "Active" to "Completed" and two buttons appear:
- Start new: return to the Home Screen for a new project
- Go to Pro Tools: focuses Pro Tools and closes fPost
If clips don't move to their target tracks during import, it may be due to clip name mismatches between the AAF and Pro Tools. fPost uses multiple matching strategies (exact name, base name, position-based fallback) but some edge cases may require manual adjustment in Pro Tools.
