The Visualizer
Selector and Grabber
The Visualizer has two tools: the Selector and the Grabber. Press E to toggle between them. The active tool is highlighted in the top bar.
Selector tool
The Selector is the default tool. Use it for everything that doesn't involve physically moving a clip:
- Click the ruler to move the playhead to any point in the session
- Click and drag on the timeline to select a time range
- Double-click a clip to select its exact duration
- Click a track to select it
When you have a time selection, pressing Space plays only that region. With loop mode on (L), the selection loops continuously.
Start in the Selector. Switch to the Grabber only when you need to move a clip, then switch back. Most of your time in the Visualizer will be spent in Selector mode.
Grabber tool
The Grabber lets you pick up clips and move them to a different track. Switch to it with E, drag the clip to its destination, then press E again to return to the Selector.
- Click and hold any clip, then drag it to a different track
- A semi-transparent preview follows your cursor to show where the clip will land
- Release to drop, or move your cursor away from all tracks to cancel
When a drop is blocked
Not all moves are allowed. The clip snaps back to its original position if:
- The target track has a different channel count (mono vs stereo)
- The clip would overlap with an existing clip on the target track
- You try to drop onto a video track
