Import Module
Stereo to mono conversion
A fake stereo file (also called dual mono) is a stereo file where both channels contain identical audio. These files waste disk space and cause phase and routing issues in your session.
How detection works
fMusic's AI-R engine compares the left and right channels of every stereo file during import. When both channels match within the configured sensitivity threshold, fMusic flags the file as fake stereo and converts it to a true mono file before sending it to your DAW.
Enabling the feature
Open Import Customization and enable the Stereo to Mono toggle. You can adjust the detection sensitivity threshold to match your session's audio characteristics.
A high sensitivity setting catches more fake stereo files but risks flagging true stereo files with very similar channels (e.g., centered room mics). Start with the default and adjust only if you get false positives.
Why it matters
- Mono tracks use half the disk space of fake stereo
- Mono tracks route correctly to mono buses and channels
- Eliminates potential phase correlation issues in the mix
- Your DAW session is cleaner and faster to navigate
