Changing sessions

fMusic works on one Pro Tools session at a time, and picking the session is part of the flow, never a manual step in Pro Tools. Organize and Export work on the session Pro Tools has open, entered from Home; Import chooses its destination on the Session Settings page.

From Home: Current Session and Open a Session…

The Organize Session and Export Deliverables sections of Home each offer two doors:

• Current Session: the session open in Pro Tools right now. The row shows the session's name and format (for example "48 kHz · 24-bit") with a pulsing status dot while it is live. When Pro Tools is running without a session, the row reads No Session Open ("Open a session in Pro Tools"); when Pro Tools is not running, Pro Tools Not Connected ("Launch Pro Tools to connect"). In both cases the row is dimmed and disabled.
• Open a Session… ("Browse for a .ptx on disk"): always available. Pick a Pro Tools session file and fMusic opens it in Pro Tools for you. For Organize, the session is also loaded into the editor; for Export, you go straight to your prints.

Import: the Destination card

Every import chooses where it lands on the Session Settings page, in the Destination card:

• Current Session: import into the session open in Pro Tools. Offered only while a session is open.
• New Session: fMusic creates the session for you. Type a Session Filename and pick a folder with Save In (pre-filled from the default folder in Settings, under General). If Pro Tools is closed, fMusic launches it and creates the session.
• Existing Session: pick a .ptx with Choose; fMusic opens it in Pro Tools before importing.
• Template: create the new session from a template. Template from offers Installed (the templates in Pro Tools' Session Templates folder, picked by Group and Template) and From settings (the template file loaded in Import settings). Then name the session and pick its folder, as for New Session.

fMusic pre-selects the destination once per import: Current Session when a session is open, Template when Pro Tools is closed and a template is loaded, otherwise New Session. A session filename cannot contain / \ : * ? " < > |.

The Recent Sessions shelf

Below the three Home sections, the Recent Sessions shelf keeps the sessions you loaded most recently ("Sessions you open appear here." when empty). Each card shows the session's name, when you loaded it and how many tracks it carried, and a badge with the operation it was opened for. One click reopens the session in that recorded mode. If Pro Tools is not running and the mode needs it, fMusic offers to launch Pro Tools and open the session for you.

The shelf holds at most 10 entries: reopening a session moves it back to the top, and older entries drop off the end. Entries cannot be removed by hand.

Working with multiple sessions

You don't have to finish one session before preparing the next. Add each session's job to the queue and process them in sequence: fMusic puts Pro Tools on each job's session, runs it, and moves on, without you switching back and forth. On Intro and Studio the queue holds one module's jobs at a time; lining up import, organize, and export jobs together in one run requires Suite.
