Print preview

Suite feature. Print preview requires fMusic Suite. On Intro and Studio the Play button stays visible on every print row, disabled with a SUITE badge.

Every print in your list can be auditioned before you bounce it. fMusic plays the print exactly as it is configured, so you hear the deliverable before anything renders.

How to preview a print

Click the Play button on a print row (Preview this print). A waveform bar opens under the row, showing Reading audio… while fMusic assembles the print's audio, then playback starts. While it plays:

  • Drag anywhere on the waveform to seek
  • The time readout shows position and length as m:ss / m:ss
  • Press Space to stop playback
  • Close preview dismisses the bar

One preview plays at a time: starting another closes the current one, and a row shows either its track list or its waveform, never both. A print built from routing folders is expanded to its member tracks for playback.

Why preview before bouncing

A bounce batch can run for many minutes. Discovering afterwards that the mix source was wrong, or that a track was muted, means redoing the whole batch. Hearing the print first turns that from a re-render into a two-second check.

Preview catches exactly the errors that are invisible on screen and obvious by ear:

  • The print is set to the wrong mix source, so it renders the wrong mix
  • A track that belongs in the print is muted, so it renders incomplete
  • Anything else you would only notice by listening

Make previewing the last step before you run a batch, especially before queueing several sessions to process unattended. Ten seconds of listening per print protects hours of rendering.

Preview output device

Preview plays through the device set in Settings ▸ Visualizer ▸ Preview output: System Default or any detected output. This is the output fMusic's own player uses for all in-app playback, the editor included, so previewing does not fight Pro Tools for your main audio interface. Point it at a secondary output (built-in speakers, headphones) and Pro Tools keeps the interface untouched.

To select which prints to export and run the bounce, see How to bounce your stems. For what a print can render, see Grouped vs Individual prints.
