Keyboard shortcuts

fMusic has three families of shortcuts. The editor shortcuts drive transport, clip editing, markers and the view while the editor is open. The three global print shortcuts are system-wide hot keys that create prints while Pro Tools is in front. A handful of fixed app and window shortcuts cover Settings, Undo and Redo, the routing lists and the print list. The first two families are remappable in Settings ▸ Shortcuts; the third is not.

Editor shortcuts

These are the defaults, grouped exactly as Settings ▸ Shortcuts lists them: Transport, Clip editing, Markers and View & selection. Every row can be remapped (see Remapping shortcuts).

• A focused text field keeps its own keys. While you are typing in the Tempo field or in Rename Track…, Space, M, S, Z, Return and ⌫ belong to the field, not to the timeline.
• Undo and Redo are not editor shortcuts: ⌘Z and ⇧⌘Z go through the Edit menu, are not listed in Settings ▸ Shortcuts and cannot be remapped. See App and window shortcuts.
• Markers and clip deletion are keyboard-only: the control bar has no marker cluster and no Delete Clip button.
• Nudge moves the playhead by 1.0 s per press. Zoom in / out step the horizontal zoom between 2 and 750 pt/s; Vertical zoom in / out step the lane height between 0.5× and 4× of the default.
• Toggle loop is disabled until a range is selected, and Toggle snap to grid does nothing while the grid resolution is Off, exactly like the matching buttons in the control bar.

Global print shortcuts

Three system-wide hot keys create prints from the tracks selected in Pro Tools without switching apps. They are listed in Settings ▸ Shortcuts under Export Global Shortcuts, each with its own description.

How they behave

• They work while Pro Tools is in front. fMusic stays in the background: the print simply appears in the Export list.
• They do not need Accessibility access to fire.
• They are ignored while the queue is processing.
• With nothing selected in Pro Tools, a notification says Select the tracks to print in Pro Tools first. If the selection cannot be read, the notification is Couldn’t read the Pro Tools selection.
• On Intro, once the one-custom-print limit is reached, the shortcut posts No print created with the reason. Studio removes the limit.
• One selected track names the print after itself. Several tracks open the Name your print panel (Enter your print prefix here:) with Cancel and OK; an empty name is valid, and Cancel creates nothing.
• The range is the current timeline selection in Pro Tools; with no timeline selection, the print covers the whole session.
• The print lands in Export as a custom print, already selected, and survives the list reset when you re-enter Export. A notification confirms it: Grouped tracks print created or Individual tracks print created, with {name}: N tracks.
• In the print list, the i button (Global print shortcuts) recaps the three keys and points to Settings ▸ Shortcuts.

App and window shortcuts

These keys are fixed: they are not listed in Settings ▸ Shortcuts and cannot be remapped.

• Undo and Redo name what they revert: Edit Timeline, Add Track, Add Tracks, Mute / Solo, Fader, Marker. The two items are never disabled. Inside a text field, ⌘Z belongs to the field. An edit that changes nothing produces no history entry.
• ⌘A in a routing screen is forwarded to a text field when one has focus, so select-all still works while you type a name.
• ⌫ in the print list asks first: Delete "{name}"? or Delete N prints?, with Delete Print / Delete N Prints and the reminder No audio files are deleted — only the prints themselves.
• Space stops the preview bar under a print row. Preview itself is a Suite capability: see Print preview.

Remapping shortcuts

Open Settings with Settings… (⌘,) and choose Shortcuts in the sidebar; the window title reads Shortcuts editor. There is no Save button: every change persists on its own. The pane has two halves, Export Global Shortcuts at the top and the editor’s four sections below it, and only your changes are stored. See Settings for the other panes.

Recording a new combination

• Click the key pill on a row. It reads Press keys… and waits.
• Press the new combination. It is saved as soon as you press it.
• ⎋ cancels the recording and keeps the previous combination.
• ⌫ or ⌦ clears the row to None. That is a legitimate state: the action simply has no key until you record one.
• Combinations are stored by physical key position, not by the character printed on the key, so a shortcut stays on the same physical key if you switch keyboard layouts.

Rules for the global print shortcuts

• A global shortcut must include at least one of ⌘, ⌥ or ⌃. Otherwise fMusic refuses it with A global shortcut needs at least Command, Option or Control — otherwise it would swallow that key everywhere on your Mac.
• Duplicates among the three are rejected, naming the owner: ⌘⌥C is already used by "Print selection (solo)".
• If macOS refuses to register the combination, the refusal appears in red on the row and the previous combination is restored.
• The footer reminds you of the scope: These work while Pro Tools is in front. They don’t need Accessibility access.

Restoring defaults

• ↺ on a row puts that single shortcut back to its default. In the editor half it appears only on rows you have remapped.
• Restore Defaults, in the footer of Export Global Shortcuts, resets the three hot keys at once. It is shown only while at least one of them differs from its default.
• Reset all shortcuts, in the toolbar of the editor half, does what its note says: Puts every editor shortcut back to its default. Nothing else in the app is affected. The global print shortcuts are left untouched.
