Import setup

Import setup is the second page of the Import wizard, titled Session Settings in the app: page 1 is the editor, and this screen is the last stop before the job goes to the queue. It is split into two columns. On the left, Import Session Data decides where the audio lands in time and in the track layout; on the right, a per-track table assigns every track its output or its template match.

Placement: the Import At picker

The Placement card holds the Import At picker, which decides where the clips land on the timeline:

• Session Start: the beginning of the session.
• Selection: Pro Tools' live timeline selection, resolved by Pro Tools at import time. With no range selected, the import lands at the edit cursor; if the selection can't be read, the import is blocked until you open the target session or pick another placement.
• Marker: a Marker picker lists the session's memory locations to spot to. A session without markers blocks this placement.
• Spot: a Position field where you type the exact spot, as timecode cells rather than free text. Two formats: Min:Secs and Bars|Beats; the bars format is offered only while the editor is in the musical grid, and switching formats converts the position.

Place Tracks

The Place Tracks picker decides where the new tracks appear in the track list: Top of Session, Bottom of Session, In Routing Folder, or Below a Track. Two rules narrow the choice:

• In Routing mode with Move into routing folders on (the default), In Routing Folder is the only option: every track lands inside the folder its route names. With the switch off, In Routing Folder is offered only in the template modes. See Routing Folders.
• Below a Track needs an open Pro Tools session: it adds a Tracks picker with that session's track list, and folders, aux and VCA tracks are all legitimate anchors.

Destination

The Destination card picks which session receives the import:

• Current Session: the session open in Pro Tools, offered only while one is open.
• New Session: a fresh session, named in Session Filename and saved in the Save In folder.
• Existing Session: a .ptx you pick from disk; fMusic opens it in Pro Tools for you.
• Template: a new session created from a Pro Tools template, either one installed in Pro Tools' Session Templates folder or the one loaded in Settings. See Using your mix templates.

When the destination is the current session and some files don't match its sample rate, a Sample Rate caution appears. With Import audio set to Copy or Add without copying, Pro Tools would bring the files in as-is and they would play back at the wrong speed and pitch, so the card suggests switching to Copy & Convert; with Copy & Convert active, it simply states how many files will be converted on import.

Route Tracks and Match Tracks

The right column is a table with one row per track: category color, track name, the conversion badge from stereo resolution where one applies, and a destination picker. In Routing mode the section is titled Route Tracks ("Pick an output or bus for every track.") with an Output column; in the template modes it becomes Match Tracks ("Pick the template track every track is created against.") with a Template Track column. How each mode fills and uses this table is covered in Routing and matching modes.

A status row keeps the count honest ("Every track has its output."). A track left without a destination never blocks the import: it is simply created unrouted.

Rows support multi-selection with the Finder's semantics (click, ⌘-click to toggle, ⇧-click for a range), and the window toolbar carries the bulk actions: a selection counter, Select All / Deselect All (⌘A), Clear Selection, and the Assign Bus menu, which applies one destination, or Clear Routing, to every selected track.

The placement mode comes from Settings

This screen has no mode selector: the placement mode is set once, as Placement mode in Settings > Import & Organize, because it describes how your studio works rather than a per-session decision. The wizard re-reads Settings whenever they change, so you can adjust defaults in the separate Settings window without leaving this page.

Confirming the import

Import and Add to Queue sit in the bottom bar and are disabled together while something essential is missing: no tracks, an incomplete destination, or an undetermined placement position. Import asks for confirmation first: the "Import into Pro Tools?" dialog summarizes the destination and placement and counts any unrouted tracks, its confirm button carries the track count ("Import 12 Tracks"), and Keep Editing returns you to the page.

After the confirmation the wizard never runs the import itself: it hands the job to the queue. Import queues the job, starts it, and navigates to Processing; Add to Queue queues it and returns to the dashboard.
