Organize Module

What is Organize?

Suite feature. Everything in this section requires fMusic Suite. On Intro and Studio the Organize Session section stays visible on the Home screen but is disabled behind an Upgrade to Suite capsule. Every new install includes a 7-day trial of Organize, counted from the first launch: while it runs, the section's subtitle shows Trial, N day(s) left. The trial grants Organize only; it does not raise any other tier limit.

Organize takes an existing Pro Tools session and rebuilds it to your system: tracks are renamed, recolored, re-routed, and reordered according to your categories and settings, and tracks you remove or add in the editor are deleted from, or imported into, the session. It is the Import pipeline applied to a session that already exists instead of to new audio files.

What it does

Organize reads the session track by track and loads it into fMusic's editor. Recognition assigns each track a category, and your naming style, colors, and routing mode apply exactly as they do at import. The editor is also yours to work in by hand: rename a track, change its category, reorder lanes, remove tracks, or add new audio files. Split stereo pairs (.L/.R mono files) are detected by name and merged into one stereo track when the changes are applied. Starting an Organize

On the Home screen, the Organize Session section (subtitle Rename, reorder and recolor tracks) offers two ways in:

Current Session: the session open in Pro Tools right now. The row shows the session name and its format (for example 48 kHz · 24-bit) and lights up when the session is live. Organize requires the session to be saved on disk: until it is, the row reads Save the session in Pro Tools first.
Open a Session…: browse for a .ptx file on disk. fMusic opens it in Pro Tools and loads it into the editor.

If Pro Tools is not running, or is running with no session open, the Current Session row says so and is disabled. Open a Session… is always available.

Same wizard as Import

Organize is the same two-page wizard as Import: page 1 is the editor, page 2 is Session Settings. The one structural difference is that Organize has no Destination card: it always writes back to the session it read. The final action reads Organize instead of Import, next to Add to Queue. The same settings drive both: your categories, naming and color style, and placement mode are set once in Settings and apply to imports and reorganizations alike.

Typical use

A session from another studio lands on your desk built around someone else's system: different track names, no consistent colors, arbitrary order, routing that means nothing to you. Open it with Organize and it comes out structured like your own work, as if you had imported the material yourself. The same applies to your own older projects and to sessions handed over by collaborators.

Organize vs organizing tracks at import

The Organize module is not the same thing as organizing tracks during an import. That step arranges the new files you are bringing in, before they reach Pro Tools. The Organize module takes an existing session as its source: no new audio is required, the session itself is the material being reorganized.
