Grouped vs Individual prints
A print can render its tracks as one combined file or as one file per track. In the app this is the print's Audio Format parameter, with four values: 1 file (Interleaved), 1 file (Mono), Individual files (Interleaved), and Individual files (Mono). The first half of each value is the grouped-vs-individual choice; Interleaved or Mono picks the channel layout of each rendered file. Choose based on what the delivery requires.
Grouped: 1 file
With 1 file (Interleaved) or 1 file (Mono), fMusic combines all the print's tracks into a single audio file.
Example: a print holding four drum tracks renders one file, a combined mix of all four.
Use when:
- Delivering composite stems for mastering
- Delivering to sync and music supervision
- Broadcast deliveries requiring stem files
- The client wants a simplified package
Individual: one file per track
With Individual files (Interleaved) or Individual files (Mono), fMusic renders a separate audio file for each of the print's tracks, named with the print name plus the track name.
Example: a print holding four drum tracks renders four separate files, one per track.
Use when:
- Delivering full multitrack packages for remixing
- Archiving a session for future recall
- Sending to a co-producer who needs track-level control
- Video game audio deliveries requiring separate assets
A print whose Mode is Mute always renders one summed file: the Individual files options are disabled. Use Solo mode when the delivery needs per-track files. See Print parameters.
Shortcuts
With tracks selected in Pro Tools, and Pro Tools in front, the global print shortcuts create a print without switching apps:
- Grouped, soloed: ⌘ + ⌥ + C (Print selection (solo))
- Grouped, muted: ⌃ + ⌥ + C (Print selection (mute))
- Individual files: ⌘ + ⌥ + V (Print selection as individual tracks)
