Import Module
Strip Silence in Pro Tools
fMusic handles silence removal during the import process. Your Pro Tools session arrives with clean tracks, no need to run Strip Silence manually in Pro Tools afterward.
How to enable it
- Open fMusic Import
- Click Customize
- Enable the Strip Silence toggle
- Set your threshold and minimum duration
- Run the import
Threshold control
Lower threshold values (e.g., -70 dB) remove more aggressively: even low-level noise floor gets stripped. Higher values (e.g., -40 dB) only strip the most obvious silent gaps. Tune the threshold to match your session's noise floor for clean results without cutting into performance.
fMusic's Strip Silence runs before tracks reach Pro Tools. You do not need to use Pro Tools' native Strip Silence function on any track that fMusic has already processed.
Best practices for Pro Tools
- Use offline bounce mode when Strip Silence is enabled for faster processing
- For heavily recorded sessions (50+ tracks), test threshold settings on a small batch first
- Dialogue and spoken word tracks need careful threshold calibration to avoid stripping breath sounds
