Renaming Settings

These settings in Settings > Import & Organize control how fMusic names and colors tracks and how it hands audio files to Pro Tools. To apply a one-off naming pattern to all tracks at once, use Batch Rename instead.

How tracks are named

fMusic names each track from its audio file. When the file name identifies an instrument, the track gets the clean canonical name: 18_AcGtr1Mic1.wav becomes ACOUSTIC GUITAR 1 MIC 1. Otherwise the file name itself is used, cleaned up: extension and BPM tokens removed, separators turned into spaces. File names following the studio convention INSTRUMENT - MIC - PREAMP are parsed so that only the instrument segment decides the category. Two tracks can never share a name: collisions are disambiguated with the gear segment when there is one, or a numeric index.

The Naming style row then applies its casing to every name: As typed, Title Casing (the default), UPPERCASE, Capitalize, or lowercase.

Track colors

The Color style row applies the color palette: each track is colored with its category's color, in the editor and, after the import, on the Pro Tools track itself.

Pro Tools rows

Three rows decide how Pro Tools receives the audio and shows the tracks:

• Import audio: what happens to the audio files on import.
  • Copy & Convert (default): copies the files into the session and converts them to the session's format. When the files already conform, the copy happens without a conversion pass.
  • Copy: copies the files as they are.
  • Add without copying: references the original files in place.
• Clip renaming: three values, None (default), From track name, and From file name. The setting that renames clips is From track name: each clip is renamed to match its track, so the Clips list reads like the track list.
• Track height: the height applied to the created tracks at the end of the run: Small (default), Medium, Large, or Jumbo.
